The Labor Code Private Attorneys General Act of 2004 (“PAGA”) authorizes aggrieved employees to file lawsuits to recover civil penalties on behalf of themselves, other employees, and the State of California for Labor Code violations. As the name suggests, this is not a new statutory scheme; however, it has gained significant traction in the past few years to the detriment of California’s business owners.
